After letting my vinyl records collect dust for a long time, I decided that I really missed listening to my old music collection. In order to revitalize my music library, I decided to digitize my favorite records. Conceptually, I had always thought that a "digital jukebox" was the ideal solution for music storage and playing but the cost of storing high quality music was just too expensive. Over the past few years, commercial music server devices have become available, as the cost of storing digitized music has become more economical. Initially, I considered purchasing one of these devices and spent some time evaluating a number of alternatives. However, after doing these evaluations, I realized that these commercial music servers were really nothing more than high-priced PC’s dedicated for a specific application. I then decided that a similar functioning music server, with equivalent performance, could be easily configured using a standard PC platform, a high quality audio board, and standard music player software. The process that is used to create a digital music library and music server does take some time. But in the end I think you'll agree that it is time well spent, especially when you start enjoying the convenience and audio quality that the music server provides. The remainder of this site describes how to properly digitize a vinyl record library, build a music server using a PC, and integrate the music server with a standard audio system. I hope this site information proves to be useful and interesting to other music lovers like myself.
